Started writing my 4th #screenplay today and so enjoy seeing these photos behind me. One cats even demanded to come in and be with me, which, to keep her quiet and to help me write, I’ve allowed. Perhaps it’ll be a regular practice from now on? 😂

Positivity doesn’t cost you anything. Let’s drown out the negative voices (which, let’s face it, are everywhere all the time nonstop).

Thrilled to have seen this review today for #ThePrey from a new reader. To be in November and have someone call your book the best they’ve read all year is a great feeling. A positive feeling. Yet for all the readers who’ve told me they’ve enjoyed one of my books, it seems only 0.01% of them ever review. Yet 100% of negative voices leave their views for the entire world to gobble up. Some haven’t even read a book of mine and review negatively anyway. Why? Because negativity is all around us.

Did you enjoy that Amazon purchase... rate it!

Did you appreciate the service offered by one of the countless unseen faces that are around us constantly... waiting staff, shop workers, taxi drivers etc... then let them know! Do something positive.

Kindness costs you NOTHING but it can have a HUGE impact on those who receive it. It reminds them to keep going. It offers them one voice to counter the negative tidal wave going on in their head constantly.

If you liked that book, review it! It’s the least you can do. It takes little time, it’s free, and it brings balance to the opposing viewpoints. Yes, not everyone will like the same thing. That’s what makes us human. But if ONLY the negative reviews appear, it can distort what’s real. Only this year I’ve had bad reviews saying this book stinks and then this one, for example, saying it’s the best they’ve read all year. They can’t both be right!

And if you are one of my readers who’ve promised me a review yet never got around to it, then let this moment be your moment 😀

Autumnal walk… on sunny days like today in Tallinn (read anywhere really northern) you have to savour the moment. As the last photo shows, you know winter is just around the corner (they put these boards in place like this to prevent the frozen sea ice encroaching too far up the beach and, I guess, causing more serious damage). Long shadows also, even at midday when these were taken, tells you the sun doesn’t get up very high now and by 4:30 will already be set now.

Yay for progress 🎉🎊. First time running with someone else too (apart from at The Great North Run when 65,000 runners really did slow me down). That was a long time ago… today must be my second longest run since then (I ran a 10 miler weeks after the GNR).

The aim is to go much further… but let’s see.

The novel is written in first draft form as well now! #Blackout

That’s a 4 day write time! Yes, I used the screenplay as my basis. Yes it’s well shorter than my other books. But it’s all story.

What’s amazing is that I only had the idea exactly 6 weeks ago today, yet now I have it finished in both screenplay and book formats.

Next up I’ll dive back into the script. I’ll see what needs changing, what needs improvement. Then it’ll be back to the book.

Though short, it’s still more words than The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and both of those made great books and wonderful films.

I’m super thrilled to share that I’ve just finished my second #screenplay in what’s been a super quick write. I’ve only taken 3 full days and 4 bit days to write this one. An idea that only came to me in August. Once I shared it with my family they insisted I write this one immediately.

I’ll begin the novel on Monday making this whole concept easily the quickest yet from initial idea to written first draft.

An it’s a brilliant idea and will make an epic thriller movie one day plus a page turning read.

I can’t wait for you to see it…

Now I’ll let it percolate in my mind for a bit. Are there better scenes I can add? More twists, more layers, more brilliance. Can I improve it at the pre writing stage?

I follow the three act model. 14 orange stickers for act 1 leading to plot point 1. 28 yellow stickers for act 2, with the midpoint falling halfway and plot point 2 landing to transition the script to act 3, the blue stickers. (The colour is not important though I like using three different ones to separate the acts). 14 cards leading to the final scene. 56 in total. 120 pages (or less) of script, making a 2 hour film (1 page = 1 minute of film 🎞).

I discovered Final Draft 12 when writing my first screenplay last year and absolutely loved it! Having purchased it now for life, I’m looking forward to using it again (and again).

Ps - this one is going to be called Blackout, a thriller with a classic Tim Heath twist to keep you guessing and to keep the tension building.
